Why is employee wellbeing so important?

Better mental health support in the workplace has been shown to reduce absenteeism and presenteeism and therefore significantly save businesses money and increase productivity. 
Promoting wellbeing at work can lead to improved wellbeing and engagement. 
1 in 6.8 people experience mental health problems in the workplace,
12.7% of all sickness absence days in the UK can be attributed to mental health conditions.

Workshop Details

What’s involved

Workshops are based on empowering your staff to be able to take more control of their wellbeing and mental health and range from 1hr up to a full day, or a series of workshops and training if required.  1:1 Coaching can also be integrated as part of employee wellbeing support.
Topics include: Stress, Wellbeing, Building Resilience, Sleep, Digital Wellbeing, Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, Work-Life Balance, Introduction to Mental Health, Mental Health for Managers, Mental Health First Aid, and others.  I am more than happy to discuss your requirements and help you select the most appropriate topics.
Workshops, talks and training sessions are designed to enable staff to recognise their current strengths and abilities when it comes to their wellbeing and what this actually means to them, while also understanding how to effectively develop new skills and deal with areas that could lead to increased stress and burnout.
A range of activities help people to learn how stress and anxiety work at both a physical and mental level, how to turn these into positive elements and how to avoid the potentially negative impacts of challenging times and situations before it goes too far.
We learn a bespoke range of evidence-based techniques from programmes which have shown to have the biggest impact on managing stress & anxiety and increasing resilience and wellbeing.  These include: Mindfulness techniques for the workplace (and how to actually incorporate these in a realistic and manageable way); relaxation and stress-reduction methods; self-esteem and personal values; and elements from CBT and other approaches recommended by the NHS and mental health organisations.
As a former teacher and learning mentor I deliver sessions (both online and on-site) in a way that helps people to really access and understand the content, laugh and have fun with what we’re doing, and get long-term benefits from the techniques.

I create bespoke training and prices are reflected within this.  My average day rate for a course is £950 for up to 25 employees plus travel costs. Half day (morning or afternoon) £550.  Shorter workshops (between 1hr – 3hrs) are priced based on number of attendees, content and number of workshops booked. Charity rates are also available. What I do is very much tailored to whoever I’m working with.

‘Softer’ approach

Some organisations prefer a softer approach and introduction, which can be through education and discussion on ways to maintain healthy habits and behaviours during times of high work-load and time pressures.  We look at nutrition, exercise and sleeping habits as a way of developing and maintaining health and wellbeing.

Who am I

I’m Tom and I’m driven by supporting others with wellbeing in the workplace.
After my Psychology degree I ran my own businesses and discovered the highs and lows of self-employment and managing people.
I later moved into Education, quickly moving into leadership roles.  I worked closely with people who were working very long hours with increasingly high expectations and saw a lot of stress, anxiety and burnout.
Later on, despite being someone who often thrived under stress, I found myself in a position I had never expected; signed off work with stress and anxiety.  At the time it was incredibly embarrassing and I couldn’t believe it was happening to me.  This was something which only happened to other people!
It was an incredible eye-opener and I saw the support and resources available, and sometimes the lack of these or the reality of them.
After taking the time to look after my own wellbeing I went back to my Psychology roots and used this as a foundation to retrain in stress and anxiety management, resilience and other aspects of wellness and mental health.
I now work with 1:1 clients, schools and organisations to help them with ensuring their workplace is one where people’s wellbeing is supported, which has a positive impact on all involved.

Why me

Since I started working in this area I’ve found there is a large amount of information out there which is not always of the highest quality or the most useful.
I’m aiming to give a more realistic introduction to topics like Stress & Anxiety Management, Resilience Building, Mindfulness and related topics and how these can genuinely be used to help.
Having seen the impact of stress and anxiety in both people I managed and in myself, I’m very passionate about helping support others with this.
I work with evidence-based techniques which have been shown to be effective and in a way that is engaging and easy to access, built to suit the audience I’m working with.
And rather than training being something that’s interesting at the time but short-lived, I can work with organisations to keep the momentum going so that the impact is lasting.
